Emerson Valley Map

Emerson Valley lies within the civil parish of Shenley Brook End in Milton Keynes, occupying a position in the south-western part of the city. The parish boundary to the north-east runs along V4 Watling Street, with H6 Childs Way to the north-west and H8/A421 Standing Way to the south-east. The city boundary with the rest of Buckinghamshire, near Whaddon, forms the south-western edge. Emerson Valley is one of several districts in this parish, alongside Shenley Lodge, Furzton, Westcroft, Tattenhoe and Tattenhoe Park.

A Housing District with a Sporting Landmark

Primarily a residential area, Emerson Valley is best known as the home of Milton Keynes Rugby Football Club. The club gives the district a local sporting identity that sets it apart from the other largely residential grid squares nearby. Emerson Valley also functions as an electoral ward for Milton Keynes City Council, meaning it has its own representation in the city’s governance.

The Broader Shenley Brook End Parish

The wider civil parish that contains Emerson Valley has deep historical roots. The name Shenley derives from an Old English word meaning ‘bright clearing’, and the area appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Senelai. The parish is part of a cluster of four districts – Shenley Brook End, Shenley Church End, Shenley Wood and Shenley Lodge – collectively called The Shenleys. Neighbouring Shenley Lodge is notable for its 1986 Energy World development of high-energy-efficiency houses, while Furzton to the north is partly occupied by Furzton Lake, a balancing lake on the flood plain of Loughton Brook. Further south-west, the ruins of Snelshall Priory, a Benedictine priory founded around 1200, survive near the Whaddon parish boundary.
